DeremCo Project’s Second Plenary Meeting: A Landmark Event in San Sebastián

Published on September 21, 2023

The picturesque city of San Sebastián, Spain, served as the backdrop for an event that promises to reshape the landscape of composite materials and sustainability. On the 12th and 13th of September 2023, the second Plenary Meeting of DeremCo project took place at the project partner Tecnalia's headquarters.

Gearing Up for the Plenary Meeting

Partners and stakeholders eagerly awaited the opportunity to come together and discuss the groundbreaking work that defines the essence of the project. Similar to its forerunners, this Plenary Meeting delivered on its promise to be a hub of enriching experiences and fruitful discussions, having set the stage for a brighter future.

Delving into Progress and Research

At the heart of the Plenary Meeting were the progress reports on ongoing project activities. These reports offered a comprehensive view of the strides made in the field of composite materials and sustainability. Attendees had the chance to delve into the intricacies of the research and of each demo-case, gaining valuable insights into the project's development.
From a technological standpoint, the project will pursue two distinct pilot strategies. The first option is based on mechanical processes that start with end-of-life wind turbine blades, enabling the production of a variety of products for the automotive, energy, packaging, and sports sectors. The goal is to reduce the content of virgin fibers (0-30%) and increase the concentration of recycled material in these products up to 90%. The second alternative, on the other hand, begins with waste from glass fiber-reinforced plastics, subjected to a highly efficient pyrolysis process to obtain long, clean, and mechanically high-performance fibers. As a result, products suitable for the aerospace sector and markets with a strong demand for more cost-effective carbon fibers (such as the automotive industry) will be produced. These two alternatives, along with their respective demo cases, as mentioned, were the main topics discussed during the two days of the meeting, primarily organized around discussion sessions and roundtable discussions.

Moreover, during the meeting, attendees had the opportunity to visit Tecnalia's facilities and witness the technologies that Tecnalia uses in its projects and operations. Such visits provided valuable insights into the partner's capabilities and the practical aspects of their work.

Successful Conclusion

The Plenary Meeting culminated on the 13th of September, 2023. Enriching experiences, detailed progress reports, and fruitful discussions defined this event, underscoring the project's commitment to excellence.

Stay tuned for more updates on the outcomes and future endeavors of the DeremCo project, as it continues to shape the future of innovation!
