Biz-up, the business agency of the Upper Austrian government, is an innovation driver and a partner for location development & settlement of companies, cooperation and public funding advisory services. On behalf of the Upper Austrian Government: Development, coordination and implementation of Upper Austria´s RIS3 Strategy since 1998. Cross-sectorial implementation via nine Clusters/Networks (about 2200 companies). Running about 20 EU- funded projects with strong involvement of Upper Austrian key authorities for S3 and regional funding programmes and is a member of EUSALPS (subgroup bio-economy). At present, more than 2.300 members of the Biz up collaborate with each other. Business Upper Austria acts as a business agency with the clear aim to strengthen and further develop the region.

The Automotive-Cluster and the Plastics-Cluster of the Business Upper Austria agency are also co-founder of the Austrian wide platform “Austrian Advanced Lightweight Technology (A2LT)”. A2LT brings together the expertise of Austrian companies and research centres on the subject of lightweight engineering. Lightweight construction is, however, not an end in itself. It plays a major part in meeting sustainability targets. 

Implementation of the EU’s climate and environmental goals calls for a fresh industrial policy based on the circular economy, whereby lightweight technologies play a critical role. In those industries with high circular potential in particular, holistic approaches can help to adopt the circular principle, with research and innovation providing support. In many of these sectors 

and areas, full potential has not yet been reached. 

Therefore, A2LT has defined establishing of designs for repair/reuse/recycling as equally important as functionality and production efficiency with the aim to exploit economic and environmental potential of recyclable lightweight construction technology.
