DEREMCO INSTITUTIONAL EVENT – Innovation and Policy for the Circular Economy of Composite Materials
DEREMCO INSTITUTIONAL EVENT – Innovation and Policy for the Circular Economy of Composite Materials
The DeremCo institutional event will take place on November 28, 2025, in Rome at the Regione Lazio headquarters (Sala Tevere, Via Cristoforo Colombo, 212) The event will be held in Italian. This event will gather key stakeholders from industry, research, and public authorities to discuss scalable pathways for circular value chains in composite materials, focusing on technological innovation and policy development.
The event is part of the Close to You programme, related to the EU Week of Regions and Cities 2025 initiative, during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union Cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.
About DeremCo
DeremCo is a project co-funded under the European Union’s Interregional Innovation Investments (I3) program. It aims to develop a circular value chain for fiber-reinforced plastics and composite materials, which are widely used in strategic sectors such as wind energy, construction, and aerospace due to their unique technical performance. Despite their benefits, these materials pose significant challenges in post-use management, often ending in landfills.
The project leverages interregional funding and collaboration to establish demand-driven reuse solutions for post-use composites in high-value new products. DeremCo places a strong emphasis on technical innovation and aims to create systemic, inter-sectoral circular economy solutions that connect technical and social ecosystems. By linking innovation ecosystems across European regions, the project promotes the transfer and expansion of best practices beyond borders. This approach supports joint investments, collaborative pilot projects, and strengthens regional value chains by connecting industries, research institutes, and policymakers within a shared innovation framework.
Event Context and Objectives
The DeremCo event will serve as a strategic dialogue platform between national and regional stakeholders and the DeremCo consortium. The goal is to share project results and experiences to encourage the integration of good practices into national and regional policies, particularly in green transition, industrial innovation, and sustainable composite material management.
Specific objectives of the event include:
- Presenting the main technological and organizational solutions tested within DeremCo.
- Encouraging dialogue between institutions, industry, and research to identify concrete actions supporting the circular economy.
- Highlighting the role of the Lazio Region as an innovation ecosystem, through local experiences and pilot projects, including Open Call winners.
- Sharing policy recommendations developed within the project and collecting feedback to shape future national and regional strategies and regulatory tools.
Strategic Relevance
Through interregional collaboration, DeremCo demonstrates how industrial and sustainability goals can be met concurrently by transforming post-use fiber-reinforced plastics from waste into valuable resources. The project supports regional innovation ecosystems by showcasing tested technological and organizational pilots and addresses regulatory and normative frameworks that may hinder industrial upscaling of circular solutions.
The event encourages knowledge exchange and fosters a bottom-up, evidence-based approach to align policies for circular composite value chains across Europe. It aims to promote cohesion and growth for the future by advancing sustainable industrial practices and the green transition, benefiting industries, communities, and the environment alike.
Invitation
The DeremCo event invites institutional representatives, industry stakeholders, research bodies, and policymakers to join this important discussion to help shape the future of circular economy investments in composite materials across Europe.
This comprehensive gathering marks a significant milestone for DeremCo in advancing innovation and policy towards sustainable composite materials management and circular economy solutions.
The official language of the event is Italian.
Access to the event is by invitation only.
